WOW! What a week this week was! Tuesday started the interesting week off with a BIG bang! Tuesday morning Trent and I took Brantley for his 10 day pediatrician appointment. Brantley now weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces and he is 20 and a 1/4 inches. He has really grown! At his first appointment Brantley was down to 5 pounds 15 ounces. So, in 8 days our boy did some major growing! :-) His appointment went really well, and everything looks really good! We came home from the pediatrician, Trent went to work, and Brantley and I started our normal routine!
Around 2 Brantley and I started our afternoon nap together. At 3:15 I woke up shaking all over uncontrollably. Checked my temperature it was 97.8, and so I thought I was just cold. So, I turned up the thermostat and grabbed another blanket. That didn't work at all, and the shaking didn't stop. Then I called my Mom because I had no idea what was going on. By the time my parents arrived I did have a fever of 102. So, Mom stayed here with Brantley and Daddy took me to the ER. Trent beat us to the ER, and they immediately took me back as soon as they saw my blood pressure, which at this point was around 200 over 117. Then they checked my temperature, and it was 106. Apparently I freaked everyone out...I was still shaking so hard I had no comprehension of what was going on other then I wanted to stop shaking! At this point of shaking every muscle in my body for almost 3 hours, I was hurting REALLY bad! They started running test to see what could be wrong with me, and started giving me meds to try to break my fever. They were afraid I could have an abscess on my spine because of my epidural, and we did a CT scan. If it had been an abscess I would have had to go to a Dallas hospital for a Neurosurgeon, but thankfully it was negative. Then some results came back and they thought it was something with my kidney's. Then while waiting on those results they had a test come back that showed I had a possible blood clot in my lungs. So, yet again more test. No clot was found...again thank God! So, then we were told it was Pyelonephritis, which is a REALLY bad kidney infection, and mine went septic. Because of my fever I was told I had to go to ICU.
When I got to ICU my fever was down to 97.6, and stayed down from there on out...again thank God! ICU was HORRIBLE! It was the WORST night of my life! I don't know how ANYONE EVER gets well on that floor. I got exactly 30 minutes of sleep...I get more sleep at home with my newborn. I continually prayed to get moved. Dr. Hermann (my new hero) came to work that morning, and they called him on my case. He wanted me moved immediately since I was stable, and had no further spikes. He also wanted me moved to the 3rd floor so he could work on my case, so that I could pump, and so Brantley could come see me. So, in hospital time immediately means 2 hours later I was moved. It was then confirmed that I had Pyelonephritis, and we had to find which antibiotics would kill the bacteria.
I have felt fine since Tuesday, but apparently my infection was pretty severe and had to stay for IV antibiotics and monitoring. The original plan was that I would be in the hospital until possibly Sunday, but I started responding so quickly to the medications that I got to come home Friday morning! :-) They said because I am young and healthy that is the reason why I turned around so quickly!
I hope to not have to return to TMC or any hospital for 2 to 4 years when it is time to give birth to baby #2!!!!
Oh, hospital humor....they had me take a pregnancy test! I said seriously?!?! I am 12 days post pardom! They had to check anyways....just incase!
Baby Brantley is doing so well, and he is the light of his parents eyes. He is blessed with the best Dad in the WORLD! He did such an amazing job taking care of both of us! We are also so blessed with an amazing family/support system. Also, thanks for all the prayers...they REALLY worked!
