FINISHED!

Well, we are finally finished, and it is great!  Before I reveal our finished product I thought I would give everyone our thoughts on the process.  Would we do it again?  ABSOLUTELY!  Would we do things a little different?  Probably.  If we did this again we would we would probably sponge on the colors a little differently.  We would calm it down a little more, but that is what we like about this kit you can make it your own.  The sponge process is time consuming.  Our kitchen is 34 square feet counter surface, and it took us 3 1/2 hours.  The primer and top coats each took 30 minutes.  So for a total of about 5 hours we have a great new counter top surface.

Here is our reveal.  The only thing we have left to do is to re-caulk the tile where they tile and countertop meet.  We now have to wait 72 hours to lightly use our counter tops and 14 days for full use.  The next project for the Rice house is a fence.  Stay tuned for more DIY goodness!

It is also really difficult to see in the pictures, but the top coat is SUPER glossy, and I LOVE it!

Here it is!  Also at the end I have pasted the link to look into your own Giani kit to fix your countertops!

Kitchen Remodel Day 2

WOW!  LONG Day!  We woke up early this morning to put on the primer.  It was very easy, and only took us about 35 minutes.  The primer takes 8 hours to dry.  So, we went to help my parents move the rest of their shop from their old house to their new house.

When we got home it was time to start on applying the colors.  This was a learning experience, and very time consuming.  My husband is exhausted!  If we were to do this again, we would have done some different things with our colors, but it still turned out well!

Ready for some pictures?!?!  Here we go!

Here are all of the BEFORE images.  This is before we did anything.  Do you now see why we wanted a change?

Now on to prep work.

To prep, we had to take out the old caulking, clean with an SOS pad, and taping off the area.  The plastic drops down to cover the cabinets, but I didn't take pictures of that part.  I guess you can use your imagination! HA!

Saturday we started the primer.  Here is the primer step!

Then we had to wait 8 hours, and then to start the colors.  You have to sponge on each color one at a time in 3 foot sections.

Above was the first color in the first section.  Below is the First and Second colors together.

Below is the finished section.

You will have to wait to see the finished product because I want to show the whole kitchen off when it is finished, but enjoy this lovely section!

Kitchen Remodel Day 1

Well, our kitchen remodel has finally started!  YIPPIE!  I am excited/nervous/already exhausted!  We started tonight by going to Lowe's and getting all of the supplies we need to get started on this project.  We bought the Giani Granite Countertop paint.

Our "new" home, has been remodeled everywhere except the kitchen.  With us being newlyweds and just buying our first home we don't have the money for a full kitchen remodel.  The worst part of our kitchen is the UGLY countertops.  They are a horrible color that we hate.  I had heard about the Giani Countertop Paint on a blog that I was reading.  I didn't think it could be true, and I started doing some very very serious research.  I couldn't find a single bad review.  So, we decided to try it.  If it works, great!  If it doesn't work we had to replace the countertop anyways.  Win, Win if you ask me!

Tonight we taped off the area, scrubbed the countertops with SOS pads, and removed all old caulk.  Tomorrow morning (EARLY by the way!), we are going to start with the first coat (primer).  Then we are going to help my parents finally move all the way out of our old house.  Then we will come back and get started on our countertops.  The first coat has to dry for 8 hours.  Check back tomorrow for pictures.  I am taking a ton of pictures, and might make a video too!  I am so excited to be a homeowner, and get to be the DIY couple we can be....even if my husband is most of the DIY! HA!

Maybe with my remodel, I will start blogging more, and actually get readers....What do we think?!?!
